10 HABITS FROM CHILE I NEED TO GET RID OF (when I am back in Europe)

After more than 6 months here in Chile I do some things that are different from what I normally do in Denmark. It is these small things that Chileans don’t think about because for them it’s normal, but for me, it was something I thought about. I have collected 10 habits that I need to get rid of when I am back in Denmark (read with humor):    ♥ Traffic light behavior; waiting until the signal is green which means “yes, now you can walk”. I need to stop crossing the road when it shows “red man”. It’s actually a habit I never quit after my first trip to Mexico. I[…]

FROM LEGO IT IN DENMARK TO SHEEP FARMING IN PATAGONIA

Yipiii! I got a new job! I have actually been working for about one month now, but it took some time to communicate it because I have been quite busy since I started. As some of you might know, my first job as newly graduated was in LEGO IT as consultant in the Vendor Management department. Sharepoint, SAP, IT Infrastructure, compliance, invoices, IT projects, external partners, outsourcing and such words were part of my daily vocabulary. STARTING FROM ZERO IN A NEW COUNTRY When I moved to Chile I new I had to put my fancy University titles somewhere else and be very humble about whatever job opportunity I could get[…]

5 reasons why dating an outdoor guide is awesome

5 REASONS WHY DATING AN OUTDOOR GUIDE IS AWESOME

I am so lucky that I have my own personal Bear Grylls! Victor is an experienced outdoor guide and I am so proud of him. We are not talking “Sunny Beach” or “Springbreak in Cancun” guide. This guy knows his shit and his knowledge about history, nature, animals and outdoor life is impressing. I actually thought about being guide myself many years ago but society told me I should go to the University and read some books about things I already forgot about. Who knows, maybe he convince me to pursue this old dream. Sure it sounds more fancy to say that your boyfriend or husband is a lawyer or doctor. But[…]

Chile life: we almost had to leave our life in Puerto Natales because of an accident

Monday the 31st of October. Everything was going great. Victor had a lot of work to do, I was approaching my first month of work and we had a 1-day trip to Argentina Tuesday to see the impressive glacier Perito Moreno. Some days earlier we had made a list of things we wanted to do during the season and after the season. We calculated the money we had and how much we would earn. We were being very positive about the future! Then I got a message from Victor that took us through an emotional roller coaster ride through the not-so-friendly Chilean health system. THE ACCIDENT IN TORRES DEL PAINE[…]

How is life in Chile after 1 month

I have now been more than 1 month in Chile – time really flies! With this post I wanna update a bit about life here at the end of the world. I have just been posting amazing pictures but these great trips are not my everyday life. Work-life-balance in Puerto Natales We have been in Puerto Natales almost 3 weeks, and I have been working 2 weeks in a outdoor/tour shop. My days are normally from 10am -1pm, then siesta/lunch time until 3pm and then work again from 3pm – 9pm. A normal work week here is 45 hours, one day off. But I am trying to “save up” days off so[…]

What surprises me about the Chileans / Lo que me soprende de los Chilenos

For Spanish scroll down / En Español ver más abajo! Disclaimer: These observations were made during 2 weeks in Chile in places like Santiago, Temuco, Puerto Varas and Puerto Montt during September. I am not saying this is typical for all Chileans or general situations that happen everywhere in Chile. I just write what I saw 🙂 Chileans have a serious problem with mayonnaise! They really like it and they put aloooot of it on their food like “completos” and sandwiches. Seems like it is as normal as having ketchup and mustard aside. Down jackets is the preferred kind of jacket. Mostly in black or blue. And they wear it outside[…]
